The Players' Philanthropy Fund (PPF) is a revolutionary philanthropic management tool unique to the sports industry. Founded by former NFL place kicker and Ravens Ring of Honor Member Matt Stover, PPF enables professional athletes, staff and associates to make charitable donations to the causes and foundations of their choice while protecting their financial assets and reputation. The Matt Stover Family Foundation is a donor of the Players' Philanthropy Fund.
As a former athlete, Matt understands that philanthropic efforts can be difficult to manage while dividing time among travel, training and family. For this reason, Matt created PPF to provide an accessible, simple and safe solution for professional athletes and their representatives to maximize philanthropic giving, regardless of where their career takes them. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, PPF takes the responsibility and management out of the client's hands by helping to oversee and operate all aspects of their charitable giving within the fund.
How it works – the client contributes to PPF (a Donor Advised Fund) and receives an immediate tax deduction. The funds are invested and grow over time in a tax-free account managed by Brown Advisory. When the client would like to donate to a cause or a foundation, Brown Advisory sends a check safely and securely to that cause or foundation on the client's behalf with all of the customized branding of the client and/or their organization.
